The Resource for Tattoo Designs and Tattoo Ideas

tatto design

If you’re a beginner tattoo artist and you don’t have previous experience ... In this post, we’ll focus on how to tattoo the 10 we see the most, and then list all the styles we’ve seen gain popularity in the industry. For mine, I searched for simple graphic designs in the "Images" tab, erased their backgrounds by clicking "Erase," recolored them with "Adjust," and arranged them together to complete my tattoo design. Try using Kapwing's embedded AI image generator to get ideas for your tattoo design. Click on the lightbulb icon in the top navigation bar to open the AI modal.

Botanical May Birth Flower Tattoo

The subtle shaded effect on the lily of the valley flowers adds character to the artwork. Additionally, you can take a step further and make it more personalized by adding your name in a minimalistic cursive font resembling a slender stem. Exaggerated details of the subject are prominent in new school tattoos, combined with strong outline work and vibrant color schemes. Pop culture characters from cartoons, TV series, and video games are frequently the subjects of new school tattoos. When done right, it’s an impressive illusion that the artistic-type will love. A rose tattoo is a classic design for any person of any gender—and for good reason.

Experience with tattoo design

“A good tattoo will be placed correctly on the body, will have the right proportions, and will flatter the body shape,” adds Shasho. Sticker sleeves, as shown here, are a lighter and daintier take on the dark swatches of yore. Basically, a "sticker sleeve" is what you call a cluster of small tattoos that appear anywhere on your body, from your wrist to your ankle or leg.

With aging skin in mind, it's a much better idea to minimize the complexity of your tattoo designs – the simpler your tat, the better it will look as the years pass. Geometric tattoos are inspired by tribal tattoos of many cultures, including Maori, Polynesian, and Thai. In modern geometric tattoos, however, aesthetics play a major part, as they help to make sure the design doesn’t just end up looking clunky or unbalanced. Any design can be done in a geometric style, says Dana Shasho of Gida Tattoo in Tel Aviv, Israel— as long as you consider its composition.

I'll guide you through the process with some design tips and digital tools to get started. Professional designers from all over the world enter your contest by sending you concepts. A nail tattoo is an ink design that's placed on the surface of the nail. The process is similar to getting a tattoo on your skin, except that the design is applied to the nails— and it's widely said to be pain-free. Lower back tattoos are rising in popularity again—but now, they're subtler than ever.

The feeling of frustration and senselessness has led artists, writers, and philosophers to experiment and try to express the unconscious part of human beings. One of the most famous examples of surrealist art is The Persistence of Memory by the great Salvador Dalí. Surrealism as a tattoo style carries the same vibes—bizarre, intriguing, illogical, but extremely creative imagery. From an aesthetic standpoint, blackwork is the best way to create attention-grabbing, dramatic contrast on your skin. Sometimes, people confuse this style with black and grey tattoos, and we’ll elaborate on the differences between the two a bit further.

Compared to typical American tattoos, this style has a wider color scheme and a wider selection of motifs. Notable features of neo-traditional sculptures include their elaborate and ornate workmanship, as well as their vivid and striking coloration. Commonplace objects and images from nature, such as flowers and animals, are popular subjects for these tattoos. Tribal tattoos celebrate the rich symbolism of indigenous cultures in a very stylish way.

You just get the clear, easy-to-understand lessons you need to start improving fast… along with support and personalized feedback from professional artists in our online Mastermind group. Neo traditional tattoos can be considered a more modern version of American Traditional. It might seem intimidating to try to put together a tattoo design yourself.

Floral wreath circles are another popular tattoo design, which means there are a million and one ways to customize your ink. This one has a wreath of mostly leaves, and the red ink pops against the heavy blackwork. The thin line detailing on the large petals injects a sense of realism into the overall design, instantly making this lily of the valley flower tattoo pop despite being done with mere basic black ink. You wouldn’t hire somebody who’s never designed a tattoo before to design your tattoo, would you?

Any book nerd will appreciate a literary tattoo that celebrates their favorite read. From quotes to cover art to any other creative depiction, literary tattoos acknowledge the power and impact of the written word. This tattoo is admittedly a little trendy, but a smart way to remember a moment in time. Whether its the location of your childhood home or the exact spot you had a memorable experience, getting a minimal coordinate tattoo is a small reminder for you and only you. When done right, portrait tattoos are commanding, impressive and just plain stunning.

From hearts to flowers and hand-poked designs, the tattoos below represent the hottest styles of the moment—and ones that generally don't have recipients reaching for full-coverage body makeup, stat. Minimalism is a rather broad term, and many styles can offer you a minimalist tattoo. If you are fascinated by sleek and concise aesthetics, we definitely recommend looking into fine line tattoo style. The delicate technique defines the fine line tattoo, and a skillful artist can reach magnificent results in this genre.

The intricate dot work and solid black circles in ascending size also give the illusion of cycling through a lunar phase to bring the gorgeous visual full circle (pun intended). Dragonflies represent transformation and adaptability, and together with the hawthorn flowers (both budding and in full bloom), they make for a strong symbolic meaning. Here, the slim stem of the flower is wrapped around the wrist to make the embellishment look like a bracelet and is perfect for those looking for a unique and cute design. A fine-lined constellation accentuates this lily of the valley flower tattoo, stunningly adding more of a personal touch in addition to your birth flower. And when the skin on your body is filled with every other design on this list, it’s time to tattoo your knuckles. A memorial tattoo is a meaningful way to celebrate the life of a loved one.

The linework on this trio of peonies is crafted with such elegance, it makes a real statement. It just goes to show that keeping things simple can often be the best approach when it comes to tattoo design. Word and phrase tattoos have been popular forever because of the ability to make it say whatever and look however you want. The placement and the script font of this design give this a delicate feeling. Consider getting finger tattoos, which can be anything from geometric designs to more intricate, tiny details.

When we chose the top tattoo designers of 2023, we chose designers who have extensive portfolios that satisfied their clients. As a tattoo artist, you will create your own tattoo style over time. I tap them for walks, weight training, runs, and everything in-between. That's because they're a bit of a splurge, with an original asking price of $98 or more. So I've been waiting for them to be added to the brand's 'We Made Too Much' section of the site, where every discounted item is located. Though I can’t say the same for my hair, the soft, satin scrunchie sits comfortably on my wrist and even looks attractive there. Plus, thanks to its larger-than-most size, it’s easy to dig out of your purse or drawer in a flash. The L. Erickson Grab & Go Pony Tube has a unique braided design that’s secured with a plastic oval bead.

Why have I been blocked?

Then, we put each one to the test both day and night, pitting the brands against one another to find a winner. I tested each hair tie by pulling my hair into a ponytail and wearing it all day through light activities. If there’s any downside, it’s that the hold wasn’t quite as snug as some of the other options I tested.

lululemon hair ties

Goody Ouchless No-Metal Elastics

The coil is much slimmer than other coils I’ve seen, and it comes in a fun, bright pink color. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite hold its own against the competition, mostly for the same reasons I didn’t love the other coil hair ties. The material stretched three times around my hair to provide a very snug hold, but this causes it to tug at the scalp. It was much more comfortable with two wraps, but that didn’t feel tight enough for light activity. To avoid discomfort, I’d only wear this if I needed to tie my hair back while eating, working on the computer, or watching TV, when a looser grip suffices. I wish I could praise its primary function of holding hair back in the same way, but the product fell short in those tests.

Other Hair Ties We Tested

Though the fabric is very comfortable, it isn’t as stretchy as our overall pick, which limits the flexibility you have for getting the right tension for your hair. I could only wrap the hair tie around my ponytail twice, but I needed a third wrap to get a strong enough hold. Thus, the hair tie started to slip and needed to be adjusted after some light housework (in my case, cleaning up the kids’ playroom). This product lost points for comfort factors because it tugged a bit when I pulled it out of my hair and it was too tight to wear comfortably around my wrist.

In terms of function, the Kitsch Spiral Hair Coils promise to be “kind on hair, hold hair in place, and leave no marks or creases.” Overall, the product delivered. Though they have a finite stretch due to their plastic material, they are surprisingly malleable. Plus, the coils hold hair in place well, so you don’t have to stretch the hair tie to its full capacity for a good grip.

Are Lululemon Hair ties worth buying

The band is thick and tight enough to hold hair back all day and night. Yep, even my slippery hair stayed put overnight in this hair elastic. Plus, the big band caused a bump that made the hair tie impossible to wear overnight—it felt like a rock underneath my head! I took it out because I couldn’t get comfortable on the pillow with such a stiff and bulky ponytail.

I'm Brigitt Earley, a lifestyle writer, and editor with more than 10 years of experience testing all types of beauty products. For the vast majority of my life, my thick, straight, brown locks landed well past the middle of my back. The material feels similar to breakaway athletic pants—soft but textured and slightly water-resistant. The hair tie proved to be very comfortable during both wake and sleeping hours, too.

How We Tested Hair Ties

And because there are no grommets or hardware, the tie doesn’t snag at all when you slip it out of your hair, either. As a nice bonus, the Lululemon scrunchie sits loosely on my wrist—not loose enough to fall off, but not tight enough to leave an indent. Overall, this Syleia ribbon hair tie was the most comfortable product to wear on my wrist. It had that perfect Goldilocks fit—not tight, but not at all loose enough to shift.

Still, if you’re after a coil hair tie, I noticed these same faults with all of the others, so I feel confident that Kitsch is the best you’ll get. You’ll instantly love that these ribbon hair ties from 79 Style come in an extremely budget-friendly pack of 100 in 20 different colors. There’s one in every shade you can fathom, plus glittery options to add sparkle to your look. Though slimmer, this coil model was also too tight on my wrist and snagged my hair upon removal just as much as its counterparts. With two turns around my ponytail, the hair tie stayed largely in place throughout the day, but it completely fell out of my hair overnight. Despite the functionality and the elegant look, the price of this scrunchie is tough to justify.

lululemon hair ties

According to the company, the soft woven material is designed to be super comfortable and non-damaging to your strands. These coils I tested came in four shades designed to match brunette hair (there's also a set for blondes, as well as a pack of clear coils). While I wouldn’t say any of them match my hair color, they blend in and look unobtrusive enough if you’re going for an understated look. Knowing Lululemon is a go-to for active individuals, I wondered if the benefits may justify the price.

Other, more affordable hair ties on the list also gripped the hair just well (if not better) without creasing, and come in packages with more style options. These are a luxury item that I’d be more likely to buy as a gift for someone—they're made of real silk, after all—than as my everyday hair ties, which have a propensity to get lost. Throughout the day, which included a Peloton ride, a walk outside, and everyday housework, I didn’t experience any slippage. The only time some hair escaped was while I slept, but that’s a very common occurrence for my slippery, straight locks, no matter what type of hair tie I use. The Lululemon Skinny Scrunchies come in packs of six containing multiple color combinations from neutrals to vibrant hues. There was less than a half-point difference in the scores of the Invisibobble and our overall pick for coil hair ties.

These elastics are tight on the wrist as well, readily leaving a painful indentation. As promised, the elastic is very soft to the touch and slips in and out of hair with ease. No hair got caught in any of the woven material or around the decorative bead holding the tie together. It also looks attractive (each comes in five colors and has 15 hair ties total) and wears comfortably on the wrist, so you’ll always have a hair tie at the ready. Now don’t get us wrong, the Define R5 and our other top picks have excellent performance potential. Sure, the storage isn’t as plentiful as our top pick, and you can’t install quite the same level of cooling. Simply put, whatever your requirements, the Define R5 is a masterpiece and easily the best Fractal computer case to cater to a majority of builds.

Next level GPU cooling

RDY Fractal RR002 features the high-airflow Meshify 2 case with the latest AMD Ryzen™ 7800X3D combined with an AMD Radeon™ RX 7900 XTX GPU. Finally, RDY Fractal RR001 is equipped for excellent mid-range performance with an AMD Ryzen™ 7700X CPU and AMD Radeon™ RX 6950 XT GPU. The first step was finding the optimal angle for both the 360mm radiators, which ended up being 45 degrees. Once those were in place, I started placing the motherboard, GPU and PSU in the model, and designed a new internal frame out of 2mm steel.

Since 1999, iBUYPOWER has embodied its core beliefs of Perseverance, Unity, Strength, and Ambition, to deliver on its promise to build the best gaming systems for the most discerning gamers. Even in a time when PCs were not as ubiquitous as they are today, we fueled the passion for gaming by giving our customers the highest quality in custom built computers. Our systems have since become the backbone for professional gamers, game developers, LAN centers, major esports tournaments, collegiate esports, and everyday consumers.

Airflow and cooling

What’s more, be aware the case seems to have some quality control problems (likely due to the very low price point for its feature set). The reason we don’t rate it highly is because it doesn’t have quite the level of quality, features, and noise-dampening we love from Fractal. Then tying all that together is the fantastic sound dampening material seen throughout the case; performing comparably to its larger counterparts in noise reduction. But the storage will only be a concern for high-capacity builds (think server pc cases or video editing builds) – there’s more than enough here for gaming. The R5 is perfect for a powerful gaming build with great GPU space (and the aforementioned cooling ability), you have a lot of overclocking potential here. Because of the increase in volume, the top fan mounts can house a pair of large 180mm Fractal Torrent fans, although you won’t find these in the box.

North XL

Fractal Design's Define series has long been a favorite in the enthusiast community for its class-leading performance and quality construction. We have the white tempered-glass version of the Fractal Design Define 7 mid-tower ATX case on the test bench today to see what it has to offer. If you're looking for the best balance, the Fractal Design Define R6 is the case to pick. It is feature-packed, runs quiet, and comes with a whole lot of cooling features.

Because we’re reviewing the tempered glass model, our North XL did not include the side bracket for additional cooling. Instead, Fractal sent over their Flex 2 vertical GPU riser kit (an $80 accessory that’s sold separately). Fractal Design didn’t re-invent the mid-century modern wheel with its North XL.

Heck no, but for $180, the price isn’t outlandish for a case of this size, especially when you consider the fact it comes with three 140mm PWM fans and the wood accents as standard. If you want wood panels on competing Corsair cases, you’ll have to spend $70 or more, with the recently launched dual-chamber 6500 case line selling for $199 with no wood and no included fans. For storage beyond M.2, there are a pair of 2.5-inch brackets behind the motherboard plate. And you can install two more 2.5-inch or two 3.5-inch drives in trays housed under the PSU shroud. Power supply space is ample, at up to 11.4 inches, although that space lessens as you add drive trays and / or a front radiator. The exhaust fan mounting location features slotted screw holes that lets you adjust the position of the fan to fine tune airflow or make room for system components.

North

This frame needed to be placed into the case via the top, requiring me to only remove one panel in the case, minimizing the number of rivets I needed to drill out. Once the new internal frame was sorted, I went on to design the custom distro system for the build. The final step was the cable management plate that goes on top of the distro system. The front side of the loop directly hooks into a custom-designed distro plate that sits behind the motherboard tray and serves as the base for all the cable management. Once the liquid enters the distro plate, it’s routed through both radiators and goes into the built-in reservoir until it enters the pump again and goes around.

Following that collapse, the desire for glass (and RGB) everywhere came and is now going away as the thermal demand of high-end components went up and people began to take the need for airflow seriously. And now, because airflow is so important, too many cases are starting to look the same, which is frustrating. As a result, I didn’t set a deadline for when I wanted to have the design finished, but instead decided to take all the time I needed. Unfortunately, the whole world shut down soon after that, as we all know, but the build was finally finished mid-September 2020. Some people with a keen eye might have spotted that there’s a cable route towards the back end of the case, but the PSU isn’t located there – it has its own space directly under the GPU and between the radiators. These fans push fresh air from outside the case through the radiators in the main compartment, where the motherboard and GPU are located.

The radiator fans are fixed at 550rpm, the top exhaust fans are fixed at 750rpm and the D5 pump runs at 50 percent (PWM) power. Moving the motherboard to the middle of the case must have involved a fair amount of work. As much as we love the Nano C, if you’re after the smallest Fractal PC case possible, or one with a console/horizontal aesthetic.

Letting the GPU run at 75% fan speed enables it to maintain its power target while sticking to one set reasonable fan speed, so that the temperature is the only variable. The Fractal Design North measures up at 18.5 x 8.5 x 17.5 inches (HWD), so I wouldn’t try to fit an E-ATX board in here. However, this case can fit GPUs up to 13.98 inches (355mm), and our Gigabyte RTX 3070 Ti Gaming OC fits perfectly. The maximum CPU cooler height varies, depending on whether you install the fan bracket on the side. Without the bracket, the North supports coolers up to 6.7 inches (170mm), but 5.7 inches (145mm) with the bracket and fans installed. 5.25-inch drive bays were once a necessity for optical drives, but now are more or less gone.

Top 10 Hair Metal Bands of the 1980s

80's hair bands

Formed by guitarist Erik Turner, in 1984, in Hollywood, California, their popularity soared with a record sale of over 10 millions copies between 1986 and 1996. Their single, Heaven rendered no.1 position by the Rolling Stone (magazine), and the no. 2 spot in the Billboard Hot 100. Lane remained with the band through their fifth album, Belly to Belly, and later reunited with them in 2008, just three years before his death in 2011 at the age of 47. Warrant has continued on through their most recent Louder Harder Faster album, released in 2017. Over the years, Michaels has released four solo albums, and Poison joined Mötley Crüe, Def Leppard, and Joan Jett for a massive world tour in 2022.

Guns N' Roses

They formed in 1978 when singer David Coverdale left Deep Purple and signed with Geffen Records. Their self-titled album was their biggest success, though it was actually the band’s seventh release. Cinderella is another Pennsylvania hair band, forming around the same time and location as Poison.

Greatest Hair Rock Bands of the 1980s

The musicians of this era took inspiration from the glam rock artists of the 1970s, both in fashion and sound. Sure, the music is different, but both have a similar fashion and helped define the formative years of many people. It’s a sure bet that people will continue to nostalgically listen to hair bands, no matter how uncool it’s become. White Lion is another one of those 80s groups that seemed to be at the complete mercy of record labels. The band’s debut album got them dropped from Elektra after they decided they didn’t like the finished result. During the late 80s, Winger was one of the hair bands in the upper echelon of the industry.

Rock City Angels

Their songs, Miles Away, and, Seventeen, are some of the biggest songs of the era. W.A.S.P. is one of those 80s hair bands that embraced the sexualized side of the music industry. Much of their lyrics tend to be themed in this manner, which certainly didn’t sit well with parental authority groups. The band would have another smash hit at the start of the 1990s with Cherry Pie. Many fans consider these first 2 albums to be required listening for any 80s hair metal lovers.

Bands like Poison, Motley Crue, and Bon Jovi were at the height of their popularity. While many of these bands faded into obscurity over the years, a few have managed to remain popular to this day. Dave, the acclaimed British rapper and songwriter, has solidified his position as one of the most talented artists in the UK hip-hop scene. In this article, we delve into his discography and present the best Dave songs that showcase his musical brilliance and his impact on the industry. Sam Cooke was only 33 when he was shot in a controversial incident at a Los Angeles hotel, but he left behind a collection of soulful music and a catalog of exquisitely well-written songs.

Explore American Songwriter

If you researched the band on that assumption, you would be quite surprised to discover the truth. Tesla was a massively famous hair group from the 80s, frequently ranking as one of the best of all time. When you think of KISS, you probably think more of the 1970s when the group was in full costume. The 1980s are kind of an obscure era for KISS, which was most notably because the band shed the makeup. This is another band that has occasionally ranked in lists as one of the greatest groups of all time. If you know about the band Europe, you probably have that classic synth melody running through your head.

Hair Metal Bands

A quick glance may have fooled the unsuspecting eye with the band’s Bret Michaels, C.C. Deville, Bobby Dall, and Rikki Rockett made up more glamorous than most women. Formed in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania in 1983, Poison fell right into the glam and hair metal scene with ease. Named after its lead vocalist, the band managed to release a ton of iconic singles and albums. Their career hit its peak in the 1980s with the number one albums “1984”, “5150”, and “OU812”. Despite its cheesy tendencies, hair rock defined the look and sound of the 1980s in many ways.

80's hair bands

Unfortunately, the 1990s weren’t very kind to Winger and they eventually disbanded for years. Over 10 years later, the group began to play together and release music again, continuing to this day. Imagine playing in a band and gaining record label attention, only for the label to request that you leave. Then, imagine being replaced and seeing that very band achieve mainstream success.

Mötley Crüe

The song, Rock Me, for example, remains to be a very popular song, even today. There are few hair bands that have the reputation for excess that Mötley Crüe has. This band seemed to love living the fast lifestyle and all of its short-term thrills. It’s undeniable that Bon Jovi was responsible for some of the biggest hits of the 80s. Livin’ On A Prayer, and You Give Love A Bad Name, are still songs people can’t help but sing along to. After some legal battles over who controls the band, Blabbermouth reports that founding lead singer Stephen Pearcy announced in 2018 that he'd continue Ratt with bassist Juan Croucier.

In fact, opening for Bon Jovi launched Skid Row to new heights in the hair rock scene. Between the ballads and distinct fashion, hair bands were like the 1980s version of 2000s emo music. Unless you’re a true fan of 80s hair bands, you might not be familiar with Enuff Z’Nuff. This group’s 1989 song, New Thing, was a regular music video on MTV’s rotation. Slaughter’s 1989 debut album, Stick It To Ya, was one of the last major hits of the decade. It also remains one of their best-selling albums out of their entire catalog.

Over the years, continued turmoil within the band resulted in two touring versions of Ratt, one with frontman Stephen Pearcy and another with drummer Bobby Blotzer. Pearcy released two more albums under the Ratt name with original guitarist Warren DeMartini—Ratt in 1999, followed by the 2010 release, Infestation. Just like Guns N’ Roses, Def Leppard is another hair band that is known as one of the best-selling music artists in the world. Although they were formed in 1977, the rock band first started releasing albums in the 1980s, with their most notable work from that time being their first number one – “Hysteria” from August 1987.

Additionally, many of these bands broke up in the early 90s, right when grunge was starting to become popular. As a result, their music has been largely overshadowed by more recent genres. It’s time to step back to country music’s golden era as we journey through the 1960s, where the twang of guitars and heartfelt lyrics echoed through the airwaves. In this article, we pay homage to the best male country singers of the 60s, and the iconic voices that shaped a generation. By the 90s, Cinderella tried to shift their sound more towards blues rock to follow the trend.

Their fame skyrocketed in the mid-1980s with the release of their best-selling albums “Slipper When Wet” and “New Jersey”. Credited as being one of the founding glam metal hair bands of the 1980s, Ratt recorded four albums to mixed critical reviews. In the early '90s, the band came out with their fifth album and toured, but guitarist Robbin Crosby struggled to keep up due to a heavy drug addiction. After he returned from a tour in Japan, he checked into rehab, and in 1994, Ultimate Classic Rock explains that Crosby was diagnosed with HIV, which eventually developed into AIDS. In late 1996, lead singer Sebastian Bach left the band amid an "abyss of hatred," according to Louder, and Skid Row dissolved. Four years later, the band was revived with Johnny Solinger on vocals and Phil Varone on drums.

In 2007, Roth finally returned despite telling TMZ there could be a "'Jerry Springer'-like brawl" if he did, and Van Halen continued to play sold-out shows across the globe. Throughout their career, they were one of the best-selling bands of all time, selling more than 80 million albums worldwide and charting 13 Billboard number one hits. On October 6, 2020, the LA Times reported that Eddie Van Halen died of cancer after first announcing his diagnosis in 2001. "He was the best father I could ever ask for," Eddie's son Wolfgang tweeted. With the popularity of the singles “Here I Go Again” and “Is This Love,” along with the accompanying videos, the band’s earlier albums started to sell more copies.

Quiet Riot’s biggest single, “Cum On Feel the Noize,” was actually a cover song. Slade released it in 1973, and Quiet Riot covered it a decade later. The band’s original lineup consisted of vocalist Axl Rose, lead guitarist Slash, rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin, bassist Duff McKagan, and drummer Steven Adler. The hair rock band formed in Toms River, New Jersey, in 1986 consists of members Sebastian Bach (vocals), Dave “The Snake” Sabo (guitar), Rachel Bolan (bass), Scotti Hill (guitar), and Rob Affuso (drums). Despite several setbacks over the years, including the loss of drummer Rick Allen’s arm in a car accident, Def Leppard has continued to tour and record new music.

He’s one of the most celebrated guitarists to emerge from the 1980s. Then again, the group has had fairly minimal releases, with most coming from the 2000s. Nevertheless, Pretty Boy Floyd was a band frequently seen on MTV back in the glory days of the channel. The group’s 1989 song, Fly To The Angels, charted within the top 20 in the US. Unfortunately, the group never quite experienced the same success, despite being active throughout most of the 90s.

Fractal Design North XL Review: The Prettiest PC Case Gets Upsized

fractal design pc case

Ranking amongst the best PC cases of all time (not just from Fractal), the Define R5 hits the perfect sweet spot in offering what a majority of gaming/production builds will be looking for at its mid-range price. One of the few gripes I had with the original North was the thumb screws needed to remove the side panels, and that carries over to this larger model. I suppose it’s more secure than the pop-off pegs that have become increasingly common.

Cheapest Fractal Design Case: Fractal Design Core 1100

I then compared these with pictures of components from the Internet, and I was able to confirm and modify the 3D models to my needs and start the puzzle to fit all the hardware inside the build. While the Fractal Design North XLsports a familiar look, I’m glad that the company brought a larger version to the market. Despite the thumbscrews and still-not-quiet acoustics, the unique look and attention to detail outweigh those fairly minor issues, especially with its sub-$200 MSRP.

Cable management

So it's likely the tempered glass version of the North is at least a little quieter. The Fractal Design Meshify C is a full-tower case with a ton of room for customization. The Meshify C is for those looking for a huge case with a ton of features packed in, all while carrying a price tag that isn't too high. The custom distro and cable management plate was made with the help of a fellow Dutch case modder known as TheDutchmanModifies. He used his CNC machine to mill out all the liquid channels, O-ring grooves and mounting holes in the 10mm and 5mm sheets of acrylic that I used.

Water Cooling

But if you do want to show off your internals, the vertical GPU kit certainly makes more sense with the glass panel. The wood front slats are a darker walnut on the black model than the oak used on the chalk white variant, and I think it looks great. Once again, I’m not a carpenter, nor did I take woodshop in high school, but I love the way Fractal has done from a visual design standpoint, marrying brass metal and wood accents with more traditional steel and glass. When I took the North XL out of the box, I was taken aback by the attention to detail in this chassis. Instead of boring black or silver accents, the charcoal black version features brass-colored IO ports and feet.

Not only is it the best Fractal PC case for mITX builds, but one of the best from any brand on the market today. Anybody building an mITX build will know they’re not going to get quite the same performance as a larger build. Simply put, the Define Mini C is the best Fractal case available today for MATX builds bar none and perfect for most compact enthusiast builds. Starting with the build is the high-quality finish and largely steel exterior you expect from its more expensive counterparts. And the Meshify C does just that, with some impressive quality for its price (if you are looking for something extra cheap, see our “cheapest PC case” pick further below).

USB Type-C

Just below the surface of the top panel, you will find a large plastic mesh fan filter, and below that are mounting locations for three 120mm or two 140mm fans. As long as the performance is decent, there's nothing wrong with more traditional basic black PC case boxes or aggressive RGB-and-glass gamer chassis. But it's great to have attractive and well-performing alternatives like the North, that blend into a living room in a living room instead of standing out like an alien artifact. And it can be mounted in three different locations (bottom, middle, or top) to best suit the needs of your build. Behind the wood are two pre-installed Fractal Design Aspect 140mm fans, which can be replaced with fans or radiators up to 360mm.

Testing Hardware

If you want to go compact, Fractal Design has the Meshify 2 Compact, and for ITX builds, the Define Nano S. The Fractal Design Meshify 2 Compact is one of the newest cases from the company, and it brings the goodness of the Meshify design in a compact case. The case has a fully removable top panel for better access, as well as a full-length power supply shroud to counter the pitfalls of the compact design. An uncluttered, small form factor case designed to integrate seamlessly into your living space and daily rituals. An evolution of the slimline format, Ridge was developed in collaboration with gaming and entertainment enthusiasts to subtly improve their homes and enhance the small form factor PC experience.

That’s some real commitment to moving your motherboard, Jeroen – we’re amazed by the immaculate cable tidying and the custom distro plate. If you’re new to the world of water-cooling and want to have go yourself, then make sure you also read our full guide on how to water-cool your PC. Secondly, the motherboard and graphics card were installed, and connected with 16mm PEGT tubing. The third and final step was mounting the radiators and fans, then connecting the tubes between the distro plate and radiators.

Meanwhile, the PSU pulls its own fresh air from the underneath of the case, and there are also vents in the main compartment. With the help from two exhaust fans in the top, all the hot air gets pulled out of the system. I wanted to highlight the unique radiator layout, and I liked the clean look of just the radiators being on show without fans on top. Thanks to the dual mesh front panels, it was possible to move the six intake fans to the sides of the radiators that face the front panels. Thanks to our rapidly growing PC building Facebook page, we’ve seen many custom gaming PCs, from mods based on existing case designs to scratch PC builds.

When outfitted with a tempered glass side panel is priced at $170 / £154 or $150 / £144 without it. Known as the finest case Fractal Design makes, the Define R6 is the case to go for for a quiet build. The case packs in a ton of features, however, with great radiator and AIO cooling support, and a mid-tower form factor with plenty of room for all your hardware. Terra is a PC case designed and engineered to reshape the small form factor gaming experience.

Front I/O includes two USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 ports, a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C port is nestled between the power and reset buttons. The Fractal Design Define 7 bears a remarkable resemblance to the Define R6, R5 and Define S. The cases look so much alike that one could be forgiven for confusing them at first glance. The company seems to be going with the "if it isn't broke don't fix it" line of thinking in terms of aesthetics and style. If you're building your own PC, one of the biggest decisions you have to make is picking the right PC case. Fractal Design makes some of the best PC cases out there, and you can find one for every type of build.

We hypothesized that the tempered glass side panel would likely be quieter than the mesh variant. Fast-forward to today, the tempered glass variant of the XL model is, in-fact, quieter. No, but if fan noise particularly bothers you, you may want to consider the glass panel even if you don’t care much about looking at the internals of your case.

If you consider yourself to be an expert PC builder, you can submit your own custom PC build to us today for a chance of being featured on PCGamesN in the future. Most of the changes were made to save some well-needed space during the build. I bought the CPU, motherboard, RAM and GPU second-hand to save money, but they all still work great now. I was quite happy with the specs I had at the time – a Core i5-6600K, an ATX Z170 motherboard, 16GB of 2400MHz memory, a 500GB SATA SSD and a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 Ti card. Still, some of these specs needed to change because of what I wanted to achieve with the build. You could say this is on the warm side but I like my systems to be really quiet.

We’ll have to test it to find out, but first, let’s take a look at its specs. Behind the motherboard tray, you’ll find the usual cable tie points, a dual 2.5-inch drive bracket and two 3.5 or 2.5-inch drive trays. Ultimately, the Fractal Design North can support four 2.5 and two 3.5-inch drives simultaneously, which is very respectable in 2022. A PWM fan hub is also included, mounted behind the motherboard tray by default. It can be moved to a position above the rear fan mount, but we expect most will find its default location more convenient–and better for aesthetics as well, should you opt for the glass side panel. A complaint we had about the original Fractal Design North when we tested it was its high noise levels.

80's hair bands

While frontman Dee Snider doesn't think Twister Sister is hair metal, we're going to include them in this list because, well, they are. Only Snider remained in the public eye by joining a couple of lesser-known metal bands and then becoming a radio and TV personality. Later, in 2001, bassist Mark Mendoza even went so far as to say on an episode of VH1's "Behind the Music" that he wanted Snider dead. DeVille and lead singer Bret Michaels got into a fight backstage, according to Tone Deaf.

These bands were responsible for some of the biggest hits of the 80s, including “Edge Of A Broken Heart” by Vixen, “Live for The Whip” by Bitch, ” and “Back to The Bullet” by Saraya. Some of the most well-known female hair bands include Vixen, Bitch, and Saraya. This list is entirely based on how well the band did in terms of commercial success at the time, the amount of top-shelf material produced, and influence on other bands. Between the release of these two albums, their drummer, Rick Allen, lost one of his arms in a car accident.

80's hair bands

Whitesnake is probably best known for their song, Here I Go Again, which is a very popular power ballad. The group is headed by David Coverdale, who sang with Deep Purple for a portion of his career. This group still remains very popular, having been frequently ranked among the best bands of all time. Def Leppard was pure royalty, writing anthemic songs that almost anyone could easily remember and sing along with. Songs like Dr. Feelgood, and, Shout At The Devil, are just a few of the songs that achieved mainstream success. Even today, Bon Jovi’s music remains just as popular, no doubt aided by Richie Sambora’s guitar playing.

Hysteria, released in 1987, cemented the band as one of the best 80s hair bands. They released greatest hits albums to fulfill their obligations but reunited in 1999 to play rock festivals. Dokken formed in 1978 but didn’t release their first album until 1981. However, they didn’t have mainstream success until releasing their second album in 1984, which sold more than one million copies in the United States. The band opened for many big touring acts during that time, such as AC/DC, Aerosmith, and Judas Priest. Though Poison has reunited for tours in 2017, 2018, and 2022, they haven’t released new music since 2007.

Pick Up The Guitar is created by professional musicians, Ollie, Rich and Dipanshu. There are many contenders for the title of most popular hair band of the 80s, but the crown undoubtedly belongs to Bon Jovi.

In a 1999 interview for VH1's "Behind the Music," Crosby talked about his addiction and HIV. "What has drug addiction done for me?" he asked, according to Hair Band Heaven. "It's cost me my career, my fortune, basically my sex life when I found out I was HIV positive." Crosby died in 2002 of a heroin overdose at 42 years old. A mishmash of the original band members reunited for a tour in 2007 and released a new album in 2010. No thanks was given to Dr. Pepper, which Exclaim says offered everyone in America except Slash and Buckethead a free drink if the album came out that year.

Greatest Hair Metal Albums of All Time

Their debut album, Appetite for Destruction, was released in 1987 and became a massive commercial success, selling over 30 million copies worldwide. Cinderella’s music style is often described as a blend of hard rock, blues, and heavy metal. They released several successful albums throughout the decade, including Soldiers Under Command, To Hell with the Devil, and In God We Trust. The band’s original lineup consisted of vocalist Don Dokken, guitarist George Lynch, bassist Juan Croucier, and drummer Mick Brown. The band’s original lineup consisted of lead vocalist Marq Torien, guitarist Mick Sweda, bassist Lonnie Vencent, and drummer Jimmy D’Anda. Their music featured a blend of hard rock, glam rock, and pop rock, and their catchy hooks and melodic choruses made them famous on rock radio and MTV.

Their work ethic and popularity impressed Atlantic Records, who released their first full-length album in 1984. Their first and second label releases reached number seven on the Billboard charts, and several singles reached the Top 40. The band periodically reunites to perform live shows but hasn’t released a new album since 2010. They went through several lineup changes before becoming known as Ratt in 1981. They sold 100,000 copies of their independently-released debut album in 1983 and constantly played in Los Angeles clubs to build a die-hard fan base.

Brighton Rock

Formed in 1983 by guitarist Tracii Guns from Los Angeles, California, it united with the band, Hollywood Rose, in 1985, to form Guns N’ Roses. After several changes in the band, the main members reunited in 1999 to change the band name back to L. She went to college in Boone, NC, an area that is rich in music and culture. She also worked as a radio deejay for 10 years and grew up in Southeastern, Va, a melting pot of different musical styles and traditions. She has been to more concerts than she can count in every genre you can imagine. She resides in North Carolina with her husband, Kenny, and their dog, Marley, and cat, TJ.

The 80s was a decade defined by its music and fashion, and hair bands were a significant part of that era. The band’s original lineup consisted of vocalist Joey Tempest, guitarist John Norum, bassist Peter Olsson, and drummer Tony Reno. The band’s raw, powerful vocals, guitar riffs, catchy melodies, and anthemic choruses made them popular with fans of rock and metal alike. The band is known for its glam rock and punk influences and was one of the top hair bands in the “Hanoi Rocks movement” in the 1980s.

Stryper’s music is characterized by its blend of heavy metal and Christian lyrics. The band still continues to play with a different lineup than the original. In 2002, Guns N’ Roses topped Q magazine’s list―50 Bands to See Before You Die.

Throughout their career, Mötley Crüe has released several successful albums, including Shout at the Devil, Girls, Girls, Girls, and Dr. Feelgood. Frontman Tom Keifer has continued on in his solo career with albums The Way Life Goes (2013) and Rise (2019) and will still belt out some Cinderella classics in concert. On July 14, 2021, former Cinderella guitarist Jeff LaBar, who performed on the band’s four albums, died at 58. Still fronted by Lawless with a new lineup from its original, which consisted of guitarists Chris Holmes and Randy Piper, and drummer Tony Richards, W.A.S.P. released a 15th album, Golgotha, in 2015. The group has sold over 120 million records and is one of the best-selling American bands in history. With over-the-top outfits, tabloid-worthy antics, and plenty of hairspray, these bands occupied every corner of American culture for a decade.

Despite being nicknamed “The Most Dangerous Band in the World,” the group sold over 100 million albums throughout their career. Guns N’ Roses entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012 and is still actively touring. Dokken would catapult to fame in the early 1980s, releasing a stream of hits that would sell millions of albums. Danger Danger was a fairly popular group during the late 80s and enjoyed frequent air time on MTV. It wouldn’t be a rare sight to see the group on the famed show, Headbanger’s Ball. In fact, the band seemed as if they were at war with parents, releasing music to purposely upset them.

They’re one of the biggest hair bands to bridge the divide between rock and pop, amassing a huge following for their catchy songs with hard rock guitars and drums. The band’s debut album came out in 1984, and they released additional records in 1985, 1986, and 1988. Thrash metal is a subgenre of heavy metal music that emerged in the early 1980s. It is characterized by its fast and aggressive sound, featuring rapid-fire drumming, heavily distorted guitars, and harsh vocals.

It’s easy to dismiss this band, especially if you aren’t a fan of their smash hit song, Sister Christian. However, both Gillis and Watson had a role in shaping the way guitar would be played in the 1980s. The next year, he again wore a different hat by forming a supergroup called Hollywood Vampires with Johnny Depp and Joe Perry featuring rock covers. In 2018, Cooper played Herod in Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert," which earned positive reviews from The New York Times.
